Cosmos are annual flowers with colorful, daisy-like flowers that sit atop long, slender stems. Blooming from the summer through to autumn, they attract birds, bees, and butterflies to your garden. They’re grown easily from seeds and will even survive in poor soil conditions!

Cosmos grow in both beds and containers—and they also make excellent cut flowers and are wonderful additions to a cutting garden!

The soil should be well-draining, but other than that, cosmos don’t need any special soil preparation. In fact, they like soil that is not too rich, as rich soil will encourage foliage at the expense of blooms.

Cosmos can tolerate warm, dry weather very well. They are even drought-tolerant.

Sowing rate: 1-2g per m2

Recommended sowing times: March-May, August-October

A usually hairless annual with a stiff stem marked with purple blotches. It has an inflated papery calyx which rattles when shaken and flat yellow flowers. Flowering from May until September, it prefers undisturbed grassland such as chalk downland, hay meadows and dry dune slacks.

This is our straight yellow rattle seed. Yellow Rattle is very popular, because it helps supress grass growth.

Most of our mixtures already contain Yellow Rattle, although you may add this in yourself and allows more wildflowers to grow. It is a semi-parasitic annual.
