Greater Knapweed (Centaurea Scabiosa)

An attractive perennial with a solitary flower head with many deep reddish-purple florets, with the outer florets spread and divided. The base of the head is covered with brown bracts and is hard and swollen. Flowering from June until September, this plant suits rough grassland, hedgerows, meadows and a variety of other grassland environments.
